This program is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine on December 9, 2014. Approval extends to July 31, 2018, for the Part A sections and December 31, 2018, for the Part B sections.
Remember to visit MAINPORT to record your learning and outcomes. You may claim a maximum of 200 hours (credits are automatically calculated).
MKSAP 17 will enable Fellows to earn up to 75% of their required 400 credits during a 5-year MOC cycle.
How Royal College Fellows can earn MOC credits
After completing a MKSAP 17 CME test and scoring a passing grade of 50% correct, you will receive an email confirming that you have earned CME credits, allowing you to report your CME as a Royal College MOC activity at your convenience. Go to www.mainport.org/mainport, where you need to provide your Royal College ID and password. Instructions will guide you through the following steps:
- Click on "Enter A CPD Activity."
- Use the drag-down arrows to select Section 3 - Assessment Activities > Self-Assessment > Internal Medicine under "Select the relevant domain for this accredited SAP" > Medical Self-Assessment Program 17 under "SAP Name."
- Report the number of hours you have spent on the activity (same number reported for CME).
- Describe the outcome or impact for your professional practice.
- Report the date you completed the activity (same as reported on CME).
- Enter percentages of relevant CanMEDS Roles (optional).
- Upload a PDF certificate of your CME credits as documentation. Records of your CME credits will be available via the online answer sheets menu, where you can also generate PDF versions of your CME certificates.
- Save your CME record for later modification or enter it immediately it into your MAINPORT account.
- Your MAINPORT account will show how many credits you have entered and how many you still need to enter to meet requirements.

RACP CPD Credits
Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) may earn two Continuing Professional Development credits per hour for participating in MKSAP 17 under Category 3 of the RACP's CPD program. As a result, Fellows can use MKSAP 17 to earn 348 CPD credits during 3.5 years of the 5-year credit period, beginning July 31, 2015, and lasting until Dec. 31, 2018. RACP Fellows are required to earn 100 CPD credits each year.
How RACP Fellows can earn CPD credits
After completing a MKSAP 17 CME test and scoring a passing grade of 50% correct, you will receive an email confirming that you have earned CME credits, allowing you to report your CME as an RACP CPD activity at your convenience. Go to MyCPD, where you will need to provide your RACP username and password. Instructions will guide you through the following steps:
- Click on "Add an Activity" under MyCPD Activities
- Use the drag-down arrows to select "Section 3 - Assessment Programs" under "Category" > "Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) (2/hr)" under "Activity Description" > add additional notes > enter start and end dates of the activity > enter the number of hours spent on the activity (same as reported for CME).
- Save activity.
- Upload a PDF certificate of your CME credits as documentation (required). Records of your CME credits will be available via the online answer sheets menu, where you can also generate PDF versions of your CME certificates.
- Click on appropriate Outcome Stems to enter required Learning Outcomes (required).
- Enter reflective comments (optional).
- Save reflection or complete later.
- Indicate if you have a Professional Development Plan, or PDP (optional).
- Once saved, your activity will be counted toward saved activities and credit totals for the calendar year.
